Third and last prototype from the SOUTH series

The third prototype from the SOUTH series showed us by far the most. With fully functional steering, the yacht sailed from point A to point B, succesfully achieving its intedended goal. At the same time, we learned about further improvements and changes that we should implement.

The first conclusions written down on site were:

  • Improve the hull shape, with a wider bottom

  • Increase the ballast

  • Lengthen the keel

  • Move the center of gravity closer to the stern

  • Reduce the size of the mainsail

  • Increase the rudder surface

The yacht had problems with tacking and gybing, and the photo also shows excessive bow trim (too much bow-down attitude).

Light-wind water tests allowed us to thoroughly analyze the buoyancy and stability of the STH3 model. At this point, we can say this was the most groundbreaking test in the history of RC Sailing team due to the amoubt of information we gained from it.
