STH 2 Prototype

Second prototype from the SOUTH series

After completing work on STH 1, we tried to improve it by building on the same design. However, this approach did not lead us anywhere meaningful.

The project that was meant to change this was STH 2 - a yacht designed from scratch, with a completely different concept. Not only was the idea behind the hull shape different, but the hull was also drawn in totally new way; that however is a story for separate article.

Immediately noticeable is daggerboard keel preventing leeway, a rudder placed in the aft section within the hull outline, and a distinctive bow.

Moreover, the daggerboard together with the ballast - and therefore the boat's weight - was moved aft, while the mast was shifted forward. This changes the balance between the mainsail and jib areas.

The yacht was 3D-printed and assambled, but it served only as a test platform for the steering and communication system. It was never tested on the water, although it now proudly sits on display in our office.
